Can you really believe it is November 1st today. It's hard to believe that Christmas is only 53 days away (eek I need to do some shopping) and that 2012 is right around the corner. The past 10 months has been a busy one for me...no complaining! I have loved every second of it! I hope that next year is just as busy and fun!

I really would just like to say thank you to everyone who has supported me over the last few years. I look back on how far I have come and how many tears I have shed along the way. I really can not express how blessed I feel to do what I do. As I type this I am overwhelmed with tears...to be able to capture a single moment and to have it forever. A picture that remains here long after one is gone. I couldn't imagine a better gift to give someone...

I would love to give this gift to a local family in need...someone who has overcome great odds, a love one dealing with a sickness, anyone that may be struggling to stay afloat. If you know someone please email me at houxfamily@gmail.com with the subject being "giving" and please tell me their story. All emails must be in by December 1st so I can choose the family in need, I will be contacting them by December 10th to coordinate a session with them.

While out running errands yesterday, it seemed like everyone was giving something to me...went to the hardware store and they gave me a bunch of "scrap" wood and left over rope...went to the pool supply store with expired coupons and with out even asking the store manager honored all of them...ran to get a coffee inside the store and they gave it to me for free.

I was just so overwhelmed by everyones kindness yesterday and feel as though I need to do my part in spreading it too :)

We started off our first official day of summer break at the Temecula Berry Co.! It was our first time there and we could not have asked for a better experience. We spent the morning filling our buckets up with blueberries and occasionally we would catch the kids snacking along the way :)

I really can not believe how far behind I am on blogging...I am quite embarrassed really :) To be honest it is not my favorite thing to do but I love sharing images from my sessions!

This beautiful couple came all the way down to Fallbrook for their maternity session and I went to San Luis Obispo for their little guys newborn photos. I had never been there and I can not wait to go back! The drive there is so beautiful...once you get out of L.A.! I am looking forward to some summer sessions up there!

For their maternity photos they said they were up for anything...and they were! We went on a beautiful hike and trekked through freezing water. It was all worth it...it is a new favorite spot of mine.

When I got the call that baby Eli was finally here I was so excited and a little nervous. You see, I don't like driving and I have never driven past L.A. before. Ask any of my friends...I will do anything to get out of driving. Well I faced my fears and I packed up my little Leyla, picked up my dear friend Mandy and we headed out on our adventure! The drive was a breeze and I look forward to many more road trips...I have been missing out :)

Baby Eli could not have been more perfect at just over 3 weeks old! I had been dreaming about photographing a newborn on the beach for some time and when his momma took me to the beach near their home I knew it was the perfect spot!

This Friday marks my 29th year of life...29 years! I love it! My twenties have been a blast...no complaints or regrets here! I lived in New York and then ventured off to Hawaii, came back home and met my husband, fell in love and have a beautiful little girl who makes my heart melt. I am so blessed to be here and to be a mom, wife, daughter, sister and a photographer :)

I am so grateful for the talent that God has blessed me with and I love sharing it with

each of you.

A little reminder...

I remember the day and his words just like it was yesterday..."If you were sitting here 3 months from now Leslie you would be fighting for your life..." His words continued on but I did not hear them. All I could think about was my beautiful baby girl and my best friend who was sitting next to me. I remember closing my eyes and Ryan squeezing my hand tighter and tighter the more the doctor went on about the procedures that I would be going through every 4 weeks until a clear test results. That was the day my doctor told me I had Stage 1 Cervical Cancer.

It has been 4 years since my last procedure and tomorrow I am going in for my annual check up...talk about being a stress case today :)

So if you are reading this and you haven't had a physical or that wonderful yearly visit to your OB please PLEASE make an appointment! If I have to I will make one for you :)

One reason why I love Facebook is reconnecting with old friends. I have reconnected with so many people that were apart of my past in some way. This sweet little ones mom and I grew up together and we were even bridesmaids in our dear friend Dana's wedding together many years ago. She is such a wonderful mom and you can see it in her daughter...the love they have for each other is beautiful. I do have to share though that she wasn't so into me...if I got to close she would yell "stop". I had a hard time holding in the laughter :)

This little guy didn't want to go to sleep at first...I am glad he didn't :) While momma was rocking him to sleep I saw this old tire in the backyard and I knew I just had to use it. I asked dad if the tire was pretty gross and he replied nope, I will clean it up for you and throw it in your trunk if you want it. I then told him what I wanted to do and he gave me a weird look and said your the photographer I will let you do your thing...I am so glad they did!

I just adore sisters...I have 3 of my own and 2 in laws. I completely understand the love and the not so lovey stuff between sisters :) Mom was a little worried at first, since the first thing out of little miss A's mouth was I am not taking pictures today! She was not having her pictures taken and she made it clear :) Big sister K was loving her all about me time. By the time I finished up with K, little miss A was ready for her time with me. We caught a ladybug together, so after that we became best friends! We finished up our session with bubbles and lots of giggles....by then, the girls were back to being best friends again :)

This year for Leyla's 5th birthday we are having an Alice in Wonderland party! Every year I just have to have a theme for her party. It's just fun that way! Every year I tell myself that I am not going to go all out but I do...how can I not, she's my one and only :)

The other day Leyla and I went out and played in a field near our house. It is beautiful here in Fallbrook, the rain has made all the hillsides near our home bright green! They are covered in lush grass and wildflowers. I wish that I could play in it everyday with her!

One of my New Years resolutions is to make sure to shoot for me...to plan a session from head to toe :) There is just something about being able to do a session that is all you...the look, location and the feeling you want to express. The other day I had the opportunity to do just that!
This shoot was inspired by a vintage dress that I found on Etsy. I can admit it, I am addicted to shopping on Etsy. I love buying one of a kind items and handmade creations. I was beyond thrilled when I happened to find this little vintage dress from the 40's for $20!
I knew it would be a perfect fit for this little angel...I LOVE her big brown eyes!

Back in November when I did her momma's maternity pictures we fell in love with this spot! We were hoping for a bit of a heat wave or something since it has been a bit chilly here...we were so excited when we found out that the weather was going to be in the high 70's! I can't believe tomorrow is the first day of February. The month of January has just flown by....but then again which month doesn't. Ever since I became a mom, each time I blink something changes. Sometimes for the good or sometimes another challenge or trial in my life begins. But no matter what the change is, it is for a reason and I believe it is just another part of my story. 2010 is going to be a year of change, a year to grow as a mother, a wife, a daughter, sister, friend and a year that I want to show who I am as an artist.

2009 was a great year for me, a year of many firsts. A year of growing and believing in myself and finding out who I want to become. It was the year I decided to finally take that leap, to finally put myself out there as a photographer. I played around with it for awhile shying away and letting my inner "you're not good enough" get to me. I wasted a lot of time comparing myself to other photographers and beating myself down :( When I finally jumped, it was the best decision I could have made! I met some amazing people and was so honored to photograph their little ones and their families. I went to my very first workshop and met some wonderful talented women whom I will be friends with for all of time and have been a big part of helping me grow. I owe a lot of thanks to those who lifted me up and over the wall that I built of not letting myself move forward. Thank you...from the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in me and giving me the push that I needed!

This year, I have decided to make a few changes around here that I am excited to announce! I am so excited to be offering prints (big prints & little prints), canvases, announcements, Christmas cards and photo albums...basically lots of fun goodies!

I am so excited for this New Year and all the new beginnings that this year will bring!
Before I go...February is my birthday month, I am turning 28! I don't feel 28, I still don't feel 27! Hard to believe that my high school reunion is this summer! So in celebration of my birthday, I am going to be having some fun giveaways! Everyone has a chance to win; all you have to do is leave a comment on my blog! Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting up with this little princess and her mommy for a mini session. She is 3...soon to be 4 and is the most sweetest little thing I have ever met. She has a voice that just melts your heart when she talks to you. Her mommy and I have been talking about this shoot for awhile...we both talked about how much we love the look of vintage photographs and so I was excited that she wanted to have fun with a more vintage look. She loves the 70's so I wanted to add some warmth to the photographs...I love how they turned out!

I was so excited to get together with Mandy for some fun pictures! Mandy has been a dear friend of mine for almost 20 years...that makes me feel old :) We have been talking about this for awhile now and I finally convinced Mandy that before you know it, you are going to be married with kids wishing you had pictures of yourself before that next chapter in your life begins. I think everyone should have portraits done of themselves just to celebrate your life and where you are in this moment. I know that I love looking at old photographs of my mom and my grandparents when they were younger. I am so grateful that photography has been a big part of my families life...I treasure old photographs and the stories that are behind them.

Thank you Mandy for your friendship and support over the years....you are beautiful my friend!

Tonight I got an email from another photographer that just turned my stomach upside down. She emailed me to let me know that some person on a networking site is using my images as there own...so not cool and SUPER CREEPY! I have been told countless times to watermark my photos because anyone could copy them and print them or worse use them as their own images. Typical it won't happen to me situation...errr! So starting today and for now on all my images I post on my blog and on my facebook fan page are going to have to be watermarked...
I have emailed the site and told them of the situation, fingers crossed that this persons profile will be canceled by the end of the week!

On to a good note! There are going to be some fun changes happening around here...for one I promise I am going to be a better blogger! I look forward to sharing all the wonderful things that are going to be happening in 2010 with you by the end of this month!

I hope everyones new year has been off to an amazing start so far...can't believe February is just around the corner and that I am going to be 28! AHHHH :)

I can't wait to photograph this little beauty and her family again...our session was the quickest session I have ever done....when in So Cal is it ever 45 degrees out and windy? It was so cold that we all just could not wait to get into the cars with the heater on. I look forward to our session in the Spring!!!!

Giving my point and shoot camera some love...

I love these pictures, I would have posted more but I didn't want to post to many :) All these pictures were taken with my Kodak Easyshare camera. I loved this camera, it no longer works because it went for a swim one time at the beach saving Leyla from a wave. Most pictures that are in our home are images that I have taken with that camera.

Lately I have been getting some emails telling me that "your camera takes nice pictures" or "wow you must have a really expensive camera". Well I do have a very nice camera...it is old though in camera years, it's 2 years old now. But my camera doesn't take the picture, it may reserve what I saw at that very moment but it doesn't think on it's own. It doesn't sing silly songs to little ones to make them laugh or play peek-a-boo. It is a tool that helps me capture a single second of time, that is it.

Yes, my pictures are much sharper now with a camera that has more mega pixels than that point and shoot I used to use. I can also take multiple pictures to get great sequence shots. But by no means does having a nice camera give you great pictures, just ask my husband who challenged me one day. There are little point and shoot cameras out right now that have more mega pixels than my SLR. I now have a little canon power shot camera. I love it, it comes everywhere with me (seriously it's in my purse everyday). I don't lug around my heavy SLR, I take my little camera and I love it. I know that I can take a great picture with it. I don't need my big camera to do that.

All of this began as a simple love of capturing every moment of my daughters life and it has turned into more than just a passion of mine, it's my life. For me, I believe what I have is a gift. I think God blesses each one of us with a talent and it is up to us to find it and to use it. I think this is what he had in store for me and I hope to do great things with it...may we all find what God has in store for us.
